If he waited a bit longer, it would be too late.

“Go home. Go!” Clara squeezed her eyes shut, trying to fight back tears. She didn’t want

to upset Aiden.

She stood there, watching as Aiden’s small figure disappeared from her sight, as if she had

left with him.

After Aiden left, sure enough, the guard had gone to find Sophia.

At that moment, Sophia was anxiously pacing by their bedroom door.

Aiden meekly approached as he spoke tentatively. “Granny, why are you standing here?”

“Why didn’t you just call me if you wanted to see me?” Sophia stroked his hair, finally

feeling some relief.

“But I didn’t want to disturb you if you were asleep.”

“You cheeky monkey! Alright, now that Granny’s here, what did you want to talk about?”

Aiden nodded and took her hand. “Can we talk inside?”

“Of course!”

Sophia would do anything for her grandchildren. They were her precious little treasures.

Anyone who dared to harm them would face her wrath!

As they walked in, Alex heard them and stood up. “Brother, did you see Mo…”

He stopped mid-sentence when he saw Sophia and quickly quieted down. “Oh, it’s

Granny.”

Sophia chuckled. “Come here and let Granny give you a hug. You’ve been so busy with

school that I hardly get to spend time with you. How about I take you to the amusement

park tomorrow after school?”

Normally, Alex would be jumping for joy by now, but this time he glanced at Aiden first.

Only when Aiden nodded did he smile and say, “I’d love that! I love the amusement park!”

Sophia was none the wiser. She smiled and said, “Then you need to go to bed soon, so you

can do well in school tomorrow.”

“Okay, Granny.”

Sophia smiled, then turned to Aiden. “And what did you want to talk about?”

“Well… I was wondering about the woman. The one who saved us. Is she going to live with

Sophia was taken aback. She knew she would have to tell them eventually, but she

wanted to delay it as long as possible to minimize the impact on the boys.

mother forever!”

Upon hearing this, Alex panicked. “No, no, I want my mommy! That woman is mean. I

Sophia knew exactly who he meant by ‘his mommy,’ and sighed. “Alex, listen to me. Your

previous mommy doesn’t want you guys anymore. I know it’s hard, but I don’t want to lie

to you.”
