*Emmett, could you not talk about this stuff in front of the kid?” Clara covered Alex’s ears

with her hand and changed the subject, “By the way, Ricardo has been juggling his work

and mine lately I need to thank him when I get back!”

Emmett glanced at her, “How are you planning to thank him?”

“Maybe treat him to a meal? I’m kinda broke right now, so a nice meal is the best I can

do!”

“Just the two of you?”

Clara nodded, “Yeah! I can’t exactly invite the whole company, can I? That would cost a

fortune!”

Emmett was at a loss for words.

He wanted to know what was going on in Clara’s mind

“What? Did I repeat something wrong?”

Emmett frowned, “You’re the boss’s wife now. Do you think it’s appropriate for you to have

a meal alone with a male employee?”

Clara was taken aback, finally understanding Emmett’s displeasure.

“If you want to come, just say so! You know Ricardo and I are just colleagues!”

“But if others see, it could lead to misunderstandings” Emmett walked over, taking her

into his arms, “There may be things I can’t take care of in the future; you must be more

careful! Your status now is different from before. After returning to China, I plan to

announce your identity publicly!”

Clara immediately objected, “No! I’m not ready to be the boss’s wife yet, and I don’t

understand all those family rules. Let’s forget it, I really don’t care about the title!”

“Do you still have someone else in your heart? Or perhaps, she still had feelings for Elio?

But Emmett didn’t voice these thoughts.

Saying them out loud would make him look petty.

“I don’t‘” Clara sighed in exasperation, “Look at me; I didn’t grow up in a wealthy family, I

don’t know any manners, and I certainly don’t understand the complex relationships in the

business world. You suddenly put me in such a high position I don’t know if I can adapt,

and I probably can’t fend off those who are jealous of me. Can you delay announcing this

for a bit? I want to learn more; announce it when I can handle these things!”

Emmett looked at her and, after a moment, nodded.

“Alright! But don’t think that you can casually interact with others just because we got

married in secret!”

Before Clara could say anything, Alex asked, “What does ‘casually interact with others‘

mean?*

“You little rascal, stop asking about everything!”

Alex pouted, “I’m just curious; I naturally ask about things I don’t know. If I don’t ask, I’ll

still be clueless the next time I hear it!”

“You probably won’t encounter this term often, no need to ask. Emmett picked up Alex,

“Come on, I’ll take you to play.”

“Okay!”

Clara watched as the father and son duo went off to build blocks again and couldn’t help

but smile.

It seemed Alex was adapting to his new dad pretty quickly. She had been worried that Alex

wouldn’t accept him.

After all, Elio held an essential place in his heart!
