82 Pets and the Half

“Meow!”

Kate was amazed when she saw the inside of the research institute. It was even bigger than the one in City A that she paid a short visit because of Kyle not long ago.

“Does your little cat praising my institute?”

Hearing that female voice, Kate raised her head.

In front of them was a young woman wearing lab coat. She had blond hair and bunny ears that tilted slightly to the side, making her look adorable and cute.

Kyle narrowed his eyes.

“Kyle, this is Lica, a half and also a researcher in City B Research Institute.” General Ryan coughed lightly. “As you can see... she experienced some kind of mutation due to the fact that she came in close contact with an animal during the scene.”

“To be exact, I fused with one of our experiment rabbits.” Lica rolled her eyes. She looked at Kate and smiled faintly.

Lica’s voice sounded a bit strange when she spoke in rather incoherent words. In the outside world, it sounded like gargle or even worse, just some kind of strange whisper.

.....

But in Kate’s ear, it was completely different.

She looked at Lica in surprise and meowed.

“Meow!”

“Oh, how polite.” Lica smiled brightly.

“You can understand her words?” Kyle looked at Lica with dangerous glint. He had been trying to communicate with this little cat for a long time, but now a stranger had beaten him to it.

This made him terribly annoyed.

“As a matter of fact, yes. After I fused with the rabbit, I can somehow understand the language of these mutated animals.” Lica smiled. “I can’t communicate with ordinary animals that didn’t undergo mutation, but for those who had undergone mutation, I can communicate with them. In fact, your little cat is very polite.”

“Her name is Little Kitty.”

“Alright, Little Kitty.” Lica didn’t mind being interrupted. She knew that some pet owners were very protective of their pets. Well, she herself was not much better when she was taking care of those experimental rabbits before.

“Can you teach me the language?” Kyle was more interested in it. He wanted to be able to understand this little cat better, but first, he would need to be able to communicate with her directly.

“Unfortunately, no.” Lica scratched the back of her head. “I myself don’t know that much about the language. I only need to think of talking with them and the words that came out of my mouth will change directly. Some of the other researchers had been watching my brainwave and tried several tests, but we hadn’t made any progress so far.”

“Can you communicate cross breed?”

“Yes. These mutated animals seemed to be able to understand our language. So even though they sound like normal animal sound, they were actually trying to talk in our language. This might be the reason why I was able to understand what they’re talking about.”

“In that case, does different brainwave meant different words?” Kyle asked.

“Yes. But as of now, we don’t have that many pets who are willing to work together. The other mutated animals are mostly those who refused communication and will rather attack humans and others.”

Listening the two of them communicating about animals’ language, Dr. Dall felt like vomiting.

Come on, was this truly the reason why they came here?

He thought that they wanted to research on more important thing and not just some kind of obscure language? Though, he himself was a bit curious about this, he would rather just dissect them to find out more about these mutated pets.

“Excuse me, why are mutated pets and mutated giant animals are different?” Dr. Dall interrupted the two of them.

Lica and Kyle looked at Dr. Dall.

Being stared by these two somehow made Dr. Dall’s hair stand.

“This is still conjecture, but we believed that due to living with humans for a long time, pets had tendencies of developing some kind of understanding and no longer just following their instinct. Not to mention, they will also form a bond with the humans, which make it possible for them to gain intelligence instead of losing it.

There are several people who have mutated pets in City B and most of them had agreed to cooperate together with us. Many of them hoped that someday, they will be able to communicate with their pets directly through one way or another.”

“How about that blood contract?”

“That blood contract is still in development phase and it’s not complete. Besides, it had touched some kind of realm that we didn’t understand.” Lica showed a helpless smile. “There are only a few cases that succeeded. I think I can let you see the files but you’re not allowed to bring them out.”

“That’s fine.” Kyle agreed.

He didn’t have any intention to bring them out either. There was no one he wanted to show those files either.

General Ryan looked at his son and then at Kate.

For some reason, he felt that the best decision in his life that he had made aside from marrying his wife and having a son was to bring this little cat to his son. To think that his son would be so willing to learn so much about cat’s language...

If this was a year ago, General Ryan was sure that Kyle would have zero interest in this matter.

“How high is the intelligence of these pets?” Kyle asked another question. He had been wondering about it because Kate was so smart and sometimes even acted in a way that he would have never expected before.

“Most of them are in accordance to the animals’ age. However, they’re leaning towards younger age.” Lica looked at Kate and smiled sweetly.

How old is she?

Kate is 21 years old.

But this little cat was only a few weeks or months old?

She was not sure.

“Meow.”

Lica still kept a smile. “Do you know how old your pet is?”

“I think a few weeks.” Kyle then turned to look at his father. The one who brought that little cat was his father, so General Ryan should know better than him.

General Ryan was speechless when he was being stared by these two. He opened his mouth and closed it again. “I honestly don’t know... I’ll see if I still keep that file in my office or somewhere.”

Lica was speechless.

She had the feeling that this pair of general and his son was actually not that keen of pet before this. But now, Kyle seemed to be someone who cared greatly for his little cat.

“In that case, we can just take a little intelligence test for Little Kitty to determine the level of her intelligence.”

“Does other pets also do it?”

“Yes. In fact, it’s just some normal intelligence test such as letter recognition, shape recognition, basic mathematics, and some basic logic questions. This is usually used for little kids,” Lica explained patiently.

They would never treat the pets harshly. After all, many pet owners treated their pet as their children, so the researchers had to be careful as well. There were not many mutated pets they could research, so this chance was treasured greatly.

“You’ll be tested for intelligence, Little Kitty.” Kyle rubbed Kate’s head.

“Meow.”

Kate rolled her eyes.

If being compared to other children, Kate was sure that she was definitely at the forefront. Well, if talking about her IQ in accordance to her age, Kate was sure that she was definitely just an ordinary person.

After all, compared with a lot of people who were much smarter than her, she was really nothing much.

Lica laughed lightly. She then turned to look at Dr. Dall at the side. “The room for you had been prepared. However, the necessary room for your research still need to wait another day. We’re emptying a storage room and clean it up for you.”

“So fast?” Dr. Dall was overjoyed.

“There has been a lot of researchers who are being moved to City B. It’s only normal that we have been cleaning some of the room so that you can work quickly.” Lica smiled.

Dr. Dall: “...”

It seemed that there were too many researchers who had entered City B, so they also prepared a room for him out of convenience.

He seemed to have been hit so badly with their statement.

Dr. Dall could only sigh and said nothing. In any case, he knew that it would be impossible for him to be treated so importantly by the research institute. His position was just that of an ordinary researcher.

“Let me take you to your room. Your room has been prepared too, Mr. Kyle.”

“I have a room?” Kyle arched his eyebrows.

“Your arrival had been waited upon from the moment General Ryan said that you might come here.” Lica smiled.
