114 Returning to City B

“We’re almost reaching City B?” Kyle opened his eyes and looked outside. There were more people camping outside City B and seemed to be in poor condition. He could only shake his head lightly because he felt that the world is so unforgiving now.

With so many giant mutated animals roaming around, there was barely any safe place around where they could truly rest and be sure that nothing will happen to them anymore.

It was sad.

“Oh, you’re finally awake, Kyle.”

“Meow!”

Kate happily jumped to Kyle’s lap and then took out his dried ration along with his water bottle.

Looking at the excited little cat, Kyle let out a faint laugh. He used his free hand to caress Kate’s head and then took the food and drink that she had prepared for him.

Having a little cat who was caring for him, Kyle felt comfortable.

“Well, do we need to follow you for the mission’s reward?”

.....

“Yes, so that I can directly divide the crystals to you. Besides, don’t you want the crystals that Little Kitty had collected so far? These crystals should be enough for you to make a minor advancement in rank 4. If you’re lucky, 2 minor advancements.” Kyle nodded his head.

“That’s good.” Jake’s eyes lit up. He and Dylan were at rank 4, but Kyle was faster than them as they hadn’t even had their minor advancement yet. If they could use these crystals to make minor advancement, they would definitely want that.

“In the meantime, I’ll try to do some research about the terrains then pick the most suitable mission for us to find gems for you.”

“Got it.”

They reached City B and showed their pass before allowed inside. A lot of people’s eyes were green with envy when they saw these people who could enter City B without being blocked by these soldiers.

But what could they do?

They could only wait for a chance to enter City B in the future while trying their best to live in this area. This was the only method available for them to survive for now as many of them didn’t have the courage to walk towards another city and met with giant mutated animals again.

“Alright, this is the military base.”

“Wait, are my parents here?” Jake suddenly remembered the horror of being beaten by his mother and father.

“I don’t know.” Kyle passed a look at Jake and then walked out.

Jake wanted to cry but there were no tears. He knew how miserable his fate would be if he were to encounter his parents again. Right now, he seriously considered renting a room in Dylan’s hotel to make sure he could escape from his parent’s beating.

The three of them walked inside while Kyle was carrying Kate in his hand. His father, General Ryan, quickly came out to welcome them and brought them to the storage room that he had prepared before.

“You are the first to arrive. The other three groups hadn’t arrived yet.” General Ryan silently sighed in relief when he saw his son appearing. He was actually worried about his son, but he would never actually mention it in front of the other party.

“There are some problems.”

“What kind of problems?” General Ryan frowned.

“There’s a horde of giant mutated animals and then...” Kyle explained what happened in simplicity, but this made General Ryan stupefied. He naturally knew about these gems because the researchers have them.

“You mean... these gems are what these giant mutated animals are after?” General Ryan asked once more for confirmation.

“That’s the conjecture.” Kyle glanced at his father and arched his eyebrows. “Father, do we have any of those gems?”

“Yes.” General Ryan rubbed his forehead. “In truth, these gems had appeared long before the first red rain. It was in the hand of some researchers and this information is kept a secret. They are trying to find out what these gems are used for because it’s unclear to them.”

“What are their colors?” Kyle asked.

General Ryan passed a look at Kyle. “Red, blue, white, and chocolate. These are what the researchers in City B had right now.”

“Is it possible to ask for them?” Kyle asked again.

“That depends on what you could give them.”

“I can tell them how to use these crystals as long as they give me the two red and blue colors.”

Red for him and blue for Dylan. These two would definitely be of great use for them.

“I think that they will be more interested in you showing them direction how to use these crystals and allowing them to monitor the changes in your body. But if you truly know how to use them, try to negotiate with them by yourself. Dr. Dall is there and could help you to convince the others.”

“Are you sure he will not be the first to raise his hand in objection?’

General Ryan: “...”

Considering how much Kyle had caused trouble for Dr. Dall, it would not be strange for the other party to bear grudge. Besides, who could actually stand it when Kyle was being so annoying?

However, in the face of more knowledge, it was clear that even Dr. Dall would be tempted and might agree with Kyle’s request.

“The grains.” General Ryan changed the conversation. He felt that he would only be angrier if he continued on this topic.

“Little Kitty.”

“Meow~”

Kate take out the grains from the two locations into the storage room in front of her until it was full but she hadn’t taken out everything.

General Ryan was stunned and then laughed. “It seemed that I really underestimated your little cat’s space. Do you manage to take out the seeds too?”

“Yes.”

“Keep them for now and just give me three, no five of the boxes first. I’m going to hand them to the researchers to let them find out if there’s any changes that we can make on these plants so that they could be more resistant in this new world.”

“Ok.” Kyle patted Kate and she took out the five boxes.

“Good.” General Ryan was satisfied.

“Our reward.”

“Oh, since this is the military order and not just me, I can only give you half of the reward and the other half if from the officials. Let me write you the letter so that you can receive the reward.”

“Alright, that’s fine.”

Because of the mutation that occurred, the most valuable resources were now crystals in the eyes of these people. Kyle asked for purple, red, green, transparent, blue and grey colored crystals. They tried to make the number proportional, but the military had limited number of crystals as of now.

It was impossible to make it exactly the same.

“The purple and transparent are the rarest.” Kyle was a bit dissatisfied when he saw the few number of transparent crystals.

Kate meowed and then took these crystals into her space. In any case, it was still useful for her, so Kate will just take them. Anyway, thanks to the crystals that Kyle had gathered before, her space had upgraded in minor advancement twice.

She was not worried about her advancement that much because it didn’t seem to be that difficult as long as there were enough resources.

“Let’s go home and absorb these crystals for today. Tomorrow, I’ll take you out for a walk.”

“Meow!”

Kate was complaining, but Kyle simply laughed and patted Kate’s head. Anyway, there were still a lot of these crystals they had obtained so far, so they would better use them.

Jake and Dylan bid their farewell to absorb their crystals too and Kate had poured out the suitable crystals for them from her space.

They returned home.

At home, Kate simply poured all of the red and purple colored crystals on Kyle’s bed. Looking at the bed that was now filled with these crystals, Kate laughed mischievously.

“Little Kitty, what are you doing?” Kyle was speechless when he saw his bed had now turned to be red and purple in color. He looked at the little cat meaningfully, but the little cat had already run away to her own bed and pulled the blanket to cover her head.

It was just... her tail was still visible.

“You naughty Little Kitty.”

“Meow~”

Kyle laughed and lightly pulled the blanket that covered Kate, showing the cat’s mischievous look. He patted her head lightly. “You’re really. Do you think that I’m like you who can absorb these crystals so fast?”

“Meow.”

Kyle didn’t bother with Kate again and walked to his bed. He sighed and simply sat on top of these crystals and began to absorb them. Perhaps it was because of Kate’s mischievousness or because he had absorbed the gem, but Kyle felt that his speed in absorbing the energy was faster than before.

It was several times faster.
