The little face from his memory had long been a blur, but the image of Yolanda gazing up, her big round eyes filled with worry as

she looked at him, along with the quietness and gentleness hidden within those eyes, felt like it was still right before him.

Those eyes slowly began to merge with seventeen-year-old Sophia, slowly layering upon the Sophia of the present, making that

once fuzzy face from him memory crystal clear.

The slook in the eyes, the ssmile, the stender serenity, even the way she looked up at him, the clarity and softness

in her eyes, it was all exactly the same.

Brandon's throat felt tight, his trembling fingers slowly reached out for the white jade necklace. The necklace was taken out,

dangling from his fingertips.

Though it had been twenty years since he last saw it, the design, the material, all were just as he remembered. Every carved line

on it was just as what he recalled.

"Grandma says that when people die, they're not really gone. They just head to another world first to wait for us. After many, many

years, we'll go there too, and then we can see them again. So don't be sad, we'll definitely meet your mom again one day.

If you don't like being alone, can | keep you company? I'll stay with you forever and ever, until we go to that world where your mom

is, and I'll help you find her before | leave, okay?"

Her childlike words still rang in his ears, but she didn't remember them. She didn't remember the little promise she once made, nor

did she remember anything about him or even herself.

Brandon recalled the first the saw Sophia during his senior year of high school when she walked up to the podium following the

teacher, wearing a slightly faded school uniform, quiet and well-behaved.

"Hi everyone, my nis Sophia."

In that moment, he thought he saw Yolanda's shadow in her. But he was distracted by her age.

Yolanda, three years his junior, couldn't possibly be his classmate, and the ages didn't match up.

But he forgot, if she had indeed lost all memories of her childhood, if someone had picked her up, her real age couldn't be verified.

She was always tall for her age, which made her age deceptive, and he had taught her everything he knew from first and second

grade. The Yearwood family, not knowing her real age but seeing her proficiency in second-grade knowledge, might have sent her

to school as a second-grader without a second thought.

Back in those days, the countryside wasn't as strict about school records. All along, he never mistook her for anyone else. It was

just that she had forgotten herself.

"Brandon, I'm leaving, take care.

Brandon, | don't want you anymore.

We are never from the sworld.

Brandon, whether it's my biological family or my personal situation, I'm truly not a match for you, but there's someone in this world

who is right for me, so | won't force it. | wish you and Ms. Frost a happily ever after."

His Adam's apple moved violently, and Brandon clenched the white jade necklace in his hand, turning to open the door.

Grace, just done with her chores, saw Brandon cout with red eyes and was taken aback.

"Mr. Crawley?" She called out to Brandon, worried.

Brandon didn't look at her.

"Theresa is sleeping inside; take good care of her. | need to step out."

Having said that, Brandon had already passed her by, heading towards the hallway, grabbed the car keys and walked out the door.

Grace, somewhat confused, glanced at the door that had been abruptly shut, feeling uneasy. Kent had specifically asked her to

keep an eye on Brandon; he was worried about him.

After a moment's thought, still uneasy, she quickly pulled out her phone and called Kent, "Kent, something may happen to Mr.

Crawley. He just rushed out; seems a bit off."

Kent, busy at the office, paused mid-action at her words, "Where did he go?"

Grace shook her head, "I don't know."

"Alright, | got it." Kent reassured her, "You take care of Theresa. I'll handle Mr. Crawley."

"Okay," Grace replied.

Kent hung up without tidying up and hurried out of his office, calling Brandon while walking. The phone was ringing, but no one

answered.

Worried, Kent quickly called Don to inform him of the situation, wondering if Brandon might have gone to see him.

Don, also busy in his office, paused at the call, shut off his computer without a second thought, and hurried out.

"I'll try contacting him," as he said this, Don headed out.

Like Kent, he was equally worried about Brandon, afraid he might do something rash. His demeanor these past few days had been

completely off.
