Kent shot Brandon a worried glance, and then turned to Daniel. Daniel looked back at him, equally worried, not daring to make a

peep.

All of a sudden, Brandon lost it and roared, "Find her now!"

"Mr. Crawley," Kent called out him anxiously, "Sophia's,"

He didn't dare to finish the sentence. Brandon paused, then his eyes suddenly reddened, and he asked in a hoarse voice, "She

sneaked off again, didn’t she?"

He couldn't help but chuckle, saying, "She's always doing this, vanishing into thin air without even a heads-up."

Then he looked at Kent, "Kent, doa solid and check it out, see where she's gone, which flight she took, which city she's in."

Kent exchanged a worried look with Daniel, and then hesitantly turned to Brandon, softly trying to reason with him, "Mr. Crawley,

you haven't fully recovered yet; you should rest first."

From his perspective, Brandon was completely off his rocker right now. But Brandon lost it again, urging him angrily, "Aren't you

gonna check?"

"Mr. Crawley, last night she," Kent had to remind him tearfully, "The police are still searching and trying to find her."

"She didn't!" Brandon countered fiercely with bloodshot eyes, "She didn't go to the construction site; her business trip was just a

cover. She's been wanting to leave, just to start anew in a different city."

Kent didn't know whether to confront Brandon's self-deception. He'd rather believe that Sophia simply used the business trip as an

excuse to leave Brandon, that she never really went to the construction site.

But the truth was, Sophia did go to the construction site last night, she was there, and that was where the accident happened.

Daniel's eyes brimmed with tears too, unsure of how to comfort Brandon when the latter coldly turned to him, "She didn't go to the

site last night, right? The person who fell wasn't her, right?"

Daniel couldn't deny it and, choking up, he managed to say, "Brandon, she really was at the site last night."

"Bullshit!"

Brandon interrupted him with a roar, "You could never bear to seeand her having a good life together, just looking for a chance

to stir up trouble. She never went to the site, she didn't!"

Daniel hesitated, and then looked at him, wanting to speak but afraid to set him off, so he turned to Kent for help.

Kent was at a loss too. Brandon was in complete denial of reality. He knew deep down that after Sophia fell and hadn't been found

for so long, there was no chance she had survived. He was brainwashing himself by insisting she hadn't been to the site.

If she hadn't gone, then nothing could've happened. But reality wouldn't let him deceive himself any longer.

Thinking about the media frenzy, and Theresa waiting in the hotel, hoping to wake up to see her mother, Kent had no choice but to

say to Brandon.

"Mr. Crawley, | know it's tough for you right now, but Sophia is gone. You need to pull yourself together, Theresa is still waiting for

you."

"She isn't!"

Brandon's hand suddenly shot out, gripping Kent's throat, "You're lying! You're all lying! She just didn't want to stay with me, she

didn't want me, so she left. She never went to the site, she didn't!"

The strength in his fingertips grew as he yelled out of control. Kent turned blue, gasping for air, instinctively trying to break free but

unable to, his hands fumbling with Brandon's grip.

Daniel moved to help, but his frail body was no match for the frenzied Brandon.

In desperation, Daniel shouted, "Wake up! Sophia is dead, she's gone, stop fooling yourself. | saw her fall trying to save Nell.

Everyone saw it, don't you get it? She's gone!"

"She's not! She's not!"

Brandon, like a cornered beast, lashed out in denial, but as he did, he broke down, the strength leaving his hand on Kent's neck.

There he was, a grown man, suddenly crumbling like a helpless child, his fist pounding the wall, his forehead pressed against it as

he sobbed uncontrollably.

Kent and Daniel had never seen Brandon like this, their hearts aching with him. If only they could turn back time, they would have

done anything to stop Sophia from going to the site.

But there were no do-overs, no going back.

"Mr. Crawley." Kent tried to console him with a choked voice, "You need to look after yourself. Theresa is waiting for you at the

hotel."

But there was no response, just the sound of a fist repeatedly slamming into the wall, a powerless release, and the sounds of

uncontrollable grief.

Suddenly, the jarring ring of a cell phone broke the silence. Kent glanced at the caller ID, it was Tomas. He was still on-site

overseeing the search and rescue.

Kent quickly answered, "Hello?"
