“Did you skip work on your first day? Was it because you were unhappy?” He asked casually, making

small talk. “Was someone in the company giving you a hard time?”

“No. The manager was very considerate. She gave me three days off to settle my personal affairs and time to adapt to the new environment. She‘s too generous.” Lily clapped her hands

as though cheering for Jenny.

“Really?” Alexander questioned her words as he looked at her sideways. “Such a considerate manager.

I‘ll need to take some time to check on her.”

He looked serious, not joking at all.
