Chapter 66

The group of people immediately understood their leader’s hint, and everyone rushed to chime in.

“There’s no point in pretending anymore. She already knows,” one of them said.

“That’s right!”

“We slipped up earlier,” another added.

“Yes, Ms. Shaw sent us to beat you up. Your existence only gets in her way.”

Cynthia glanced at the group, realizing they were all trying to manipulate her. She was about to speak up and

expose their plan when a deep, commanding voice interrupted them.

“It couldn’t have been Jayleen,” the man said with a sense of authority.

Cynthia froze, and the others instinctively turned to look in the direction of the voice.

Their faces turned pale when they saw who it was, and they began to stutter.

“M–Mr. Neal…”

Joshua was still in his black suit, and his cufflinks glinted mysteriously in the lamplight. His

handsome face was cold and unwavering as he focused his gaze on the group leader.

“Who are you?” Joshua asked in a low voice.

“W–We…” they stuttered, unable to answer.

It was not their fault for being scared. After all, Joshua’s aura was simply terrifying.

“I can send you to jail, or I can take care of you myself. It’s up to you to decide,” Joshua said emotionlessly.

The group was shocked. Did he have to be so cruel?

Their hearts were in turmoil, but one of them spoke up.

“It was Mrs. Neal who told us to go along with her act.”

Cynthia’s gaze fell on him. She recognized him as the guy filming her in the alleyway earlier.

The others quickly chimed in to support his statement.

“Yes, that’s right!”

“She planned it all out. She knew you’d pass by here.”

“We were just pretending to attack her so we could accuse Ms. Shaw when you arrived.”

“Yes!”

“Please, Mr. Neal. Look into this.”

At this point, Cynthia would be a fool if she were still unsure of their true motives.

This remark gave Cynthia a rough idea of what kind of person was targeting her.

Joshua’s aura suddenly became heavy, his icy gaze fixed on Cynthia with a strong sense of oppression.

“Why did you do that?” Joshua asked.

“You actually believe them?” Cynthia was a little surprised.

Joshua pursed his lips and remained silent.

Why would he not believe it? So many people had baseball bats in their hands, and each seemed to be a skilled

fighter.

Even though Cynthia had worked as Shirley’s bodyguard before, it did not mean that a girl like her could handle so

many people. Moreover, he himself might not be able to come out unscathed from the scene he saw just now.

However, Cynthia had already defeated the group of people the moment he was about to get out of the car.

The man in the white T–shirt glanced at him just as he was about to approach, and then he heard those words.

Joshua did not believe it was a coincidence at all.

“This has nothing to do with me. After I was done shopping, these men blocked me in the alleyway. I ran in this

direction to avoid trouble, but they still caught up with me,” Cynthia said, not liking to be blamed.

“Do you think I’ll believe that?” Joshua’s aura became more intimidating.

“It’s up to you whether you believe it or not. It’s none of my business,” Cynthia replied calmly.

She only explained because those people were lying.

As for whether Joshua believed it or not, it was his own business. In the end, it would prove who was the fool.

“Normal people who are blocked would run toward where there are more people. Why did you come to this

sparsely populated

area instead of running toward your residential area several hundred meters away?” Joshua questioned.
