Chapter 20

It was already noon when she arrived at the airport. The nearest flight from Jiverton to Nexuria was at two in the afternoon, so she immediately went to the ticket counter to ask if there were any cancellations by other people.

All tickets were sold out online, so she could only hope for a last–minute cancellation. However, things did not always go as planned.

Just then, two people appeared behind her. A deep, cold voice with a hint of anger sounded, ” Trying to run away after filing for divorce?”

Cynthia froze, then turned around to see Joshua in a suit, accompanied by Mr. Cheyne.

“I’m sorry, ma’am, but the flights to Nexuria today are fully booked. If you’re not in a hurry, there is a flight at eight in the morning tomorrow,” the staff member said clearly and politely.

“No, thank you,” Cynthia declined.

With the plane and train tickets sold out, she would have to drive back. However, the distance between Jiverton and Nexuria was simply too far. Holding her identification, she walked toward the airport exit, her mood heavier than ever before.

“Cancel a ticket to Nexuria.” Joshua could tell she was in a hurry and calmly approached the counter to speak to the staff member.

Mr. Cheyne was dumbfounded.

With a hint of confusion, he asked, “If you cancel, who will go to the meeting?”

Joshua replied, “Who said I was canceling?”

Mr. Cheyne paused, quickly realizing the situation, and glanced at Cynthia and his boss. He was the one whose ticket was getting canceled!

“Please present your ID,” the staff member said.

With a look from Joshua, Mr. Cheyne obediently handed over his own ticket and ID. The staff member quickly took care of the cancellation and called Cynthia back.

The moment she received the ticket, Cynthia felt a mix of emotions.

“Thank you.” She knew Joshua had deliberately canceled his ticket for her.

Joshua responded coldly, taking the briefcase from Mr. Cheyne’s hands. “No need. Once you’re on the plane, just explain why you’re leaving, and that’ll be enough.”

Cynthia did not argue, nor did she have the energy to do so. The thought of her loved one in the operating room consumed her with worry.

Seeing her preoccupied, Joshua sent a message to Mr. Cheyne. [Arrive in Nexuria before noon tomorrow.]

Mr. Cheyne replied, [Understood, boss.]

At exactly two in the afternoon, the plane took off. Cynthia sat next to Joshua, with an aisle separating them.

“What are you going to Nexuria for?” Joshua initiated the conversation, scrutinizing her more closely.

“My family member is in the hospital; I’m going to see her,” Cynthia replied honestly and calmly.

Joshua paused, then carefully asked, “Do you need me to go with you?”

“No need.”

“Which hospital?”

“I’m not sure yet.

The call came so suddenly that her heart had been racing since hearing about the incident. She left without asking about the hospital or the cause. Her only thought was to get back as quickly as possible.

“I’ll go with you after we land to help you find out which hospital they’re in,” Joshua decided without giving her a chance to refuse.

Cynthia insisted, “I already said no.”

“I’m not asking for your opinion.” Joshua’s gaze turned cold. “Since I’m in Nexuria with you, it’s my responsibility to visit them.”

Cynthia remained silent, planning to run away once they landed.

During the flight, Cynthia tried to rest while Joshua occasionally glanced at her face, filled with exhaustion and worry. He wanted to smooth her furrowed brow and let her sleep peacefully.

Three hours later, the plane arrived at Nexuria International Airport. As first–class passengers, they had the privilege of disembarking first.

Cynthia and Joshua left the plane quickly. As they approached the airport exit, Joshua looked at her beside him, constantly checking her phone, and asked, “Did you find out which hospital they’re in?”

“I’m still asking,” she said.

“Alright.”

“I need to go to the restroom for a moment,” Cynthia said, putting her phone in her pocket with the same expression she’d had before.

Joshua did not notice anything unusual and simply nodded.

Half an hour later, the person from Nexuria’s branch office who had come to pick up Joshua reminded him, “Sir, it’s been half an hour.”

Joshua suddenly realized that Cynthia might have been in the restroom for too long. He pulled out her number and dialed it, but she hung up after just one ring. Before he could call again, Cynthia sent him a text message. (I’m leaving first. Thank you for the plane ticket.]

Joshua’s face turned dark. Cynthia, what a move!

“Sir?” The head of the Nexuria branch office was getting anxious.

“Let’s go to the office,” Joshua said coldly.

Chapter 20

Once in the car, he felt a lingering sense of frustration, thinking about Cynthia’s actions. He decisively opened his email, entered the recipient’s email address, and composed a message. [ Help me find someone. Cynthia Yates, female, from Nexuria, here’s her picture. Find all the information you can about her, and name your price.]

He was contacting a hacker he’d met online when he was nineteen. They rarely kept in touch, but whenever either of them faced difficulties, they’d help each other without hesitation. It had been a long time since they’d last been in contact.

Meanwhile, Cynthia sat in the passenger seat of a white sports car, listening to the endless chatter from the person beside her. The speed at which he spoke suggested he wanted to catch up on two years‘ worth of conversation.

“Cynthia, are you even listening to me?” Jimmy, dressed in casual, sunny attire, looked youthful with his baby face.

“You’re really annoying,” Cynthia bluntly replied.

Jimmy suddenly looked hurt. “Don’t you love me anymore?”

“Say one more word, and I’ll throw you out of the driver’s seat,” Cynthia threatened, keeping it short and sweet.

Jimmy instantly quieted down.

As they approached the hospital, Cynthia could not help but worry. “Is everything really okay with Shirley?”

“You trust my sister’s medical skills, don’t you?” Jimmy knew she was worried and did not beat around the bush. “The moment she heard about Shirley’s accident, she volunteered to treat her. She knows Shirley is important to you.”

Cynthia felt slightly relieved. Before getting off the plane, she had not expected Jimmy to be waiting for her at the airport. She was surprised when she saw his message upon landing. She then found out that, after she had the call with her father, he had arranged for someone to pick her up from the airport based on her arrival time.

Jimmy was at the hospital with her father and took on the task of picking her up.

Cynthia sighed in exasperation. If she had not been so lucky to have a seat on the quickest flight, they would have waited at the airport for nothing.

Her phone suddenly vibrated twice. She casually unlocked it and saw that she had received an email to an account she had not used much in the past two years.
