Chapter 154

Yoel looked at the house billowing with thick smoke and said to Joshua, “It seems like Ms. Yates’ home is on fire.”

As soon as he finished speaking, Joshua had already gotten out of the car. He was a little dizzy as he had drunk

alcohol. If it were not for the influence of alcohol, he would not have come here in the first place.

“I wonder if there’s anyone in those upper-floor apartments. When I knocked on the door earlier, it seemed like

nobody answered.”

“If nobody answered, then there’s nobody inside, right?”

“With such thick smoke, they should know, shouldn’t they?’

Listening to the discussions around him, Joshua quickly took out his phone and dialed Cynthia’s number. However,

there was no answer on the other end despite several attempts.

“Mr. Neal,” Yoel called out to him tentatively.

Joshua took Yoel’s phone and dialed Cynthia’s number again. He was worried that Cynthia was still upset with him

because of what had happened earlier, causing her to ignore his calls. Even so, there was still no answer from

Cynthia’s side.

Joshua suddenly felt anxious. He did not care about the possible relationship between Mitchell and Cynthia

anymore.

Concerned for Cynthia’s safety, he dialed Mitchell’s number and asked him to call Cynthia.

However, the result filled him with fear and worry.

Mitchell made the call, but Cynthia still did not answer.

“Don’t be too anxious. Maybe Ms. Yates is outside and couldn’t hear the phone,” Yoel tried to console him.

“She’s inside,” Joshua said, his voice h oar se, as he looked at the building enveloped in smoke. When he had just

spoken to Mitchell on the phone, Mitchell checked Cynthia’s phone’s location, and the IP address indicated her

home network.

A thought came to Joshua’s mind almost instantly, ‘Cynthia’s phone is in silent mode, and she is asleep.’

“Mr. Neal, what are you doing?” Yoel grabbed him, trying to hold him back from rushing into the crowd.

“Let go! Cynthia is still inside!” Joshua shook him off in one motion and hurriedly made his way inside.

He did care about her and Mitchell, but he could not bear to see her lose her life here.

The fire trucks had just arrived.

The thick smoke was already making its way into Cynthia’s home. Could she be choked by the

smoke if she was still asleep and unaware of this?

The thought of seeing the lifeless Cynthia was unbearable for Joshua.

Yoel wanted to pull him back, but he realized Joshua was stronger and had longer legs.

He could not hold him back at all!

Just then, a voice filled with doubt suddenly rang out, “Mr. Cheyne?”

Yoel froze.

Joshua, who had just broken free and was running inside, also halted his steps upon hearing the voice.

M-Ms. Yates? What are you doing here?” Yoel’s eyes widened slightly, filled with surprise.

“I went out for a while.” Cynthia had yet to notice Joshua rushing into the crowd. She glanced at the fire and then at

Yoel, before asking, “What are you doing here?”

Yoel instinctively looked toward Joshua, and Cynthia’s gaze followed him. When she saw the unabashed concern on

Joshua’s face, she paused.

“Mr. Neal, Ms. Yates…” Yoel began.

“Get in the car.” Joshua’s voice was cold and merciless as he walked away from Cynthia. The worried heart,

however, relaxed at that moment. “Let’s go back.”

Yoel was speechless. Then, he hesitated, coughed lightly, and tried to ease the tension between the two.

“Weren’t you very worried about Ms. Yates just now? Now that she’s safe, shouldn’t you talk to each other?”
