Chapter 67

Two top-tier black cards, and two rich and handsome men who were household names in Elmsworth,

were actually having a spat over a necklace!

Wow! This was some once-in-a-lifetime drama!

The attendant, stunned speechless by the black cards in front of him, managed to stutter out,

“Gentlemen, there’s only one of these necklaces in our store…”

“I know.” Thaddeus’ icy gaze left Evadne’s beautiful face. “That’s precisely why I want to buy it.”

Acacia chuckled in triumph, waiting for the man to hand her the necklace.

Seeing Thaddeus’ determined attitude, Evadne bit her lip lightly, her heart filled with bitterness. As

expected, anything Acacia wanted, he wouldn’t hesitate to get it for her.

Yet, he never cared about her preferences, her feelings.

“Ignore him, swipe my card, and wrap it up for me!” Jareth raised an eyebrow, tapping his finger on the

gla** counter. “Didn’t you hear me say I wanted to buy it first?”

“Jareth.” Thaddeus looked at him seriously.

Jareth met Thaddeus’ gloomy face. “Thaddeus, you know what kind of person I am. There aren’t many

women I’d seriously want to gift something to. Considering we’ve known each other for nearly twenty

years, can you let me have this one?”

Evadne’s eyes widened, and she looked at Jareth in disbelief.

Acacia was even more shocked, her mouth agape! Ilana was such a bi tch! Only a few days after

leaving Thaddeus, she h ooked up with this trust-fund baby. How could a divorced woman be so

cherished by them?!

Thaddeus took a sharp breath. This was the first time Jareth had argued with him over a woman, even

gambling their nearly twenty-year friendship. And this woman was his ex-wife, the woman he always

claimed he didn’t care about!

“Thank you, Jareth.” Evadne suddenly spoke up, giving Jareth a faint smile. “I really like the necklace

you gave me.”

Jareth was captivated by her smile, his breath hitching. “No need to thank me, as long as you like it.”

Thaddeus’ eyes reddened, rage burning in his throat! She dared to accept Jareth’s gift?! She dared to

accept another man’s gift in front of him?! How could she do this!

At that moment, Jareth had taken the necklace and walked behind Evadne, carefully fastening it

around her neck.

Thaddeus’ face turned white, his clenched fist feeling powerless.

“Wow… It’s so beautiful…” The waiter exclaimed.

“Yeah, this necklace is really beautiful.” Evadne gave a small smile.

“No, no! I mean, you’re beautiful. Other people have tried on this necklace before, but none of them

looked as good with it as you. Not only does it accentuate its beauty, but it doesn’t steal your thunder

either. It’s perfect for you!”

Acacia’s teeth gritted in anger. She shot Thaddeus a glare, but the man at her side had no reaction, no

intention of trying to take back the necklace.

“Jareth, I need to get back to work. Let’s go.”

“Okay, let’s go.”

Evadne didn’t pay any attention to Thaddeus, leaving with Jareth like a couple.

“Thaddeus, did you mean to give me that necklace?! How could it end up in Ilana’s hands?” Acacia

asked anxiously.

Thaddeus frowned and quickly followed. “Ilana!”

Evadne stopped in her tracks, looking back at him coldly. “What else do you want, Mr. Thaddeus?

You’re not trying to take back the necklace, are you?”

Thaddeus seemed to be stabbed by her sharp gaze, his lips tightly closed. He took out a black velvet

box from his suit pocket and handed it to her.

Evadne hesitated. “What’s this?”

“A diamond bracelet. The one my grandfather gave you broke, so this is a replacement.” Thaddeus’

voice was cold, but he didn’t say the words “for you” that he really wanted to

say.

He knew how much she had hoped for him to give her a gift, but he had deliberately made it difficult for

her, never fulfilling her wish. He didn’t want to make things easy for her.

“Hmph, I don’t need it. My grandfather said he would replace it for me.” Evadne scoffed. “Mr.

Thaddeus, you better take it back. If your fiancée sees it, she might misunderstand. I don’t want to take

the blame for that.”

“Why do you accept Jareth’s gift but not mine?” Thaddeus’ eyes reddened, asking urgently.

“Maybe because accepting your gift makes me feel disgusted.” Evadne left him with those harsh words

and walked away.

“Thaddeus, I’ll come see you tonight!” After leaving him with those words, Jareth hurriedly followed

after the departing woman.

Thaddeus felt a sharp pain in his chest, his body going numb, his mind filled with Evadne’s cold words.

Acacía hurried over and saw what had just happened. Her face was dark due to anger, her eyes cold.

Evadne walked quickly towards the underground parking lot, her steps as swift as the wind.

“Ms. Ilana! Ms. Ilana! Ilana!” Jareth chased after her, grabbing her wrist.

She turned around sharply. With eyes filled with sadness, she looked at him distantly. “Let go of me.”

“What’s wrong? Is it because of Thaddeus?” Jareth’s voice trembled slightly, and he said gently and

regretfully, “I’m sorry, I didn’t know he would be here. If I had known, I would never have brought you.”

Evadne remembered the box Thaddeus had given her, her heart aching unbearably. Compensation?

She didn’t need it!

“Take this back.”

Evadne lowered her head, removing the necklace from her neck and handing it to Jareth. “Thank you

for the gift, but I’m sorry, I can’t accept something so valuable.”

Jareth was taken aback. “Were you using me?”

“I’m sorry.” Evadne’s eyes dimmed.

Even though he knew he had been used, Jareth wasn’t angry. Instead, he felt sorry for her. He felt

sorry and lost because he could tell that she still had feelings for Thaddeus. She hadn’t completely let

go of him and needed time to slowly forget that man. Even though he didn’t know how long it would

take, he was willing to wait.

“Don’t sweat it, it’s all good. I’m not as bothered since you didn’t accept Thad’s gift either.”

Jareth nonchalantly waved, grabbing the necklace, and clutching it tightly.

“Mr. Jareth, you’re actually a good dude. You see things clearer and deeper than Thaddeus. You may

seem like you don’t give a da mn about anything, but you’re actually pretty thoughtful and caring. You

deserve a better woman, someone worth your time.” Evadne felt a twinge of guilt, her tone softening

towards him.

“The better woman, the one worth it, is right here in front of me!” Jareth looked at her with bright,

intense eyes, his breath getting heavier.

“Thanks for the compliment.” Evadne smiled and walked away.

Jareth stood there, powerless, and unwilling. Was he rejected? Probably.

As the night fell, Sapphire Nights Club’s lounge.

Thaddeus was in a terrible mood tonight, so Jareth had cleared the place early, leaving only the two of

them.

Thaddeus sat at the bar, alone, his icy aura keeping the bartender at bay. In front of him, a black velvet

jewelry box.

Thaddeus had carried it around for the past few days, hoping to give it to Ilana at the first opportunity.

But she didn’t even spare it a glance, how humiliating!

He swirled the whiskey in his gla**, his mind filled with the image of Jareth putting the necklace on

Ilana, her sweet smile towards Jareth, them leaving together…

Once, she only smiled like that at him, but now she smiled like that at every man, except him.

‘Ilana, have you become this frivolous since leaving me? You’re only degrading yourself!’ Thaddeus

exhaled angrily, downing his drink in one gulp.

The bartender was stunned; he was literally playing with his life drinking like this!

He poured another, about to down it when a slender hand reached over, covering the gla**. “Thad, you

shouldn’t drink hard liquor like this. It’s bad for your health.” Thaddeus squinted at Jareth next to him,

forcing a smile. “What’s the big deal about harming my health? It’s better than being betrayed by a

friend.”

‘I… I’ve been with you all these years. When did I ever betray you?” Jareth, also in a bad mood, sat

next to him. “Get me a drink, same as his.”

“Jareth, Ilana isn’t for you.” Thaddeus said coldly.

“Why can’t I be with her?”

“She’s already with Cas sius.”

Jareth raised an eyebrow, teasingly asking, “Is it because she’s with Cas sius that I can’t be with her, or

because she’s your ex-wife?”

Thaddeus’ throat was dry; his heart seemed about to explode.

“If it’s the former, then I don’t care. If it’s the latter, then I care even less.”

Under the influence of provocative words as well as alcohol fueling the fire, Thaddeus’ long-suppressed

emotions finally erupted. He knocked over his drink, suddenly grabbing Jareth’s collar, his eyes fierce

as a blo ody knife.

“Jareth, as long as I’m alive, don’t even think about getting near her! Not until I’m dead!”
