Chapter 79  79. Veronica's thoughts

But those were all minor developments.

After all, having people be intimidated by you wasn't all that bad of a feeling.

Even the arrogant Xander would stiffen you the second their eyes met and after enduring his previous arrogant behaviour, such a sight made him feel greatly satisfied.

All in all, the world seemed to move on as the new students began to settle and adjust to their new academy life, all but one person. And this person was none other than Veronica.

Although her days didn't necessarily get worse per say, the got way more confusing

'Why is he like this?'

Veronica just couldn't understand what was going on.

She couldn't understand Lucius in the slightest!

At first she thought he was a terrifying man.

At one point she was so scared of him she couldn't even think straight in front of him but soon he came towards her and apologised showing a side of humility that she didn't expect.

To make matters even worse, she kept running into Lucius more and more as she went about her day. It was almost as if the god himself was playing a joke on her.

As if this wasn't bad enough, any time she met Lucius, it was as if she was cursed by the gods of misfortune. She couldn't control herself. She would be stumbling and falling over, dropping things at inconvenient times and every time it happened, Lucius, if all people would be there to help her out.

It was through these encounters that she realised that Lucius wasn't that bad a person after all. No, in fact he was actually rather nice.

Although her first few conversations with Lucius could be seen as rather confrontational and sometimes, even outright hostile, Lucius didn't take it to heart and continued to deal with her with a smile on his face.

He would talk with her about his likes and interests and it was surprising but they actually shared many of the same interests making conversation between them much easier.

And With Xander's brutal beating and defeat, the blame of this had somehow been solely pinned on her.

Even at a young age Xander was a man known for his pettiness as well as his abilities to divert the blame.

He wouldn't be able to breathe freely if he didn't punish Veronica for what he thought was her mistake.

With the subtle support of Xander she began to be subtly ostracised amongst her circle as if Xander was silently boasting he could control her at any time

Her Beaumont family was naturally attached to Xander's as a result her social circle was in a way just an extension of his own

With the instruction of Xander no one would try and befriend her less they offend the true boss showing her just how fake and fickle these noble friends could be

Eventually, as her days got worse and worse, and her relationship with Xander deteriorated, the small talks with Lucius became her only moment in peace

"….veronica … Veronica!"

Suddenly Veronica snapped o her thoughts

"Hum?"

"I've been calling you , for the last few seconds, aren't you paying attention!"

Xander couldn't help but scowl as he looked at Veronica's absent minded appearance.

Eventually he just clicked his tongue and decided he to move on now that she was actually paying attention.

His aura changed as the expression on his face became rather serious.

"Veronica, I didn't just call you here to mess around. I called you head to talk about Lucius"

As Veronica heard him mention Lucius her heart skipped a beat before he quickly calmed down again.

Veronica didn't fear Xander's questioning

Why should she? Her heart was clean.

Although she had been getting closer to Lucius these past few days, she had never crossed the line.

"What about Lucius?" Asked Veronica

"You need to stop meeting with him as much as you do know. In fact, I don't want you merging with him altogether."

Hearing Xander's words, Veronica was quite annoyed

"Meeting with him? You make it sound like I'm intentionally going to see him, every time we meet it's just by confidence."

"Coincidence? really? Then tell me Veronica. Why do you go to the library at the same time everyday? Isn't it just to meet with that bastard!"

Hearing this Veronica was shocked and that what she used she really didn't think about things like this!

But after hearing Xanders explanation, the more she thought about it, the more it made sense….

She might not have done it intentionally but at least subconsciously she was going to the library at the same time everyday to run into Lucius and maybe she was even secretly excited to do this.

If the thoughts in her heart were like this then maybe she…

Wait! That's not what was important right now!

How does Xander know such small details about her everyday activities.

It was then the thought hit her

"You… you actually put a spy on me!"

As Veronica said this her face turned a little ugly but Xander wasn't fazed.

He faced her anger and just shrugged it off.

"Yes I placed a spy on you and is there anything wrong about my actions."

Hearing such blatant disregard for her privacy, Veronica was annoyed but she knew that there was nothing she could do

Eventually Veronica turned to the side for assistance.

She looked up to the side and could see a rather handsome young man with crimson hair. His face was stern and sharp making one have the illusion that they were facing a valiant Knight .

This wasn't just any man but instead Louis Beaumont. The oldest don't of the Beaumont family and her older brother!

No words escaped her mouth but her eyes said everything.

Brother…

Her older brother,Louis clearly saw her eyes but he just quickly looked away.

Even if he was Veronica's older brother, first he is the heir of the Beaumont family and as such the servant of the Caldwells and also Xander would be the next heir.

He wasn't stupid.
