Chapter 263

lan looked up, his eyes landing on Samuel.

Samuel seemed to have a thing for talking about Carlene.

lan had a sharp intuition, so he frowned but couldn’t quite put his finger on what was bugging him.

Samuel’s words seemed to be casual, even helping lan dodge drinks from others, allowing lan some

peace.

Meanwhile, the rest of the people in the private room continued to gossip about recent rumors. Carlene

sat next to lan with a glint in her eyes. She thought that with everyone around, it’d be a good chance to

call lan’s wife over, a kind of warning shot.

Carlene sneaked a smile and sent Selena Casson a message in secret.

Her relationship with Selena had been tense before since Selena disliked the Shepard family and

wouldn’t allow her and lan to be together.

But things had changed. When Carlene decided to return to her country, Selena reached out, saying if

Carlene still had feelings for lan, she could marry him after his divorce.

Selena’s attitude had softened, and she seemed to think more highly of Carlene now.

“Selena, do you have lan’s wife’s number? I want to have a chat with her.”

Selena had been on bad terms with lan because of Carlene. But when she found out lan was involved

with other women, she thought, if Carlene wasn’t his only choice, she could introduce him to other

socialites, better than him picking up women outside.

So Selena wasn’t as enthusiastic about Carlene as before, not even sending a greeting, just giving her

Maja’s number directly.

Carlene looked at the number, smirked, and texted while no one was paying attention.

“Ian’s drunk; he’s in this private room; come pick him up.”

Maja was busy fussing over the design for Greenfield Gardens. She had revised it several times, but it

still wasn’t satisfactory.

Even though she had gained more advantages from Silverstone Enterprises, the design was still up to

her.

Rubbing her temples, her phone buzzed.

She looked at it in surprise.

The message was from a leader of the Pennyfeather family named Wyatt. He was one of the earliest to

follow Neil Pennyfeather. But as he aged, his contributions decreased.

Neil still kept these people around, which could be seen as indecisive. The public company needed

younger talents. Those who had been with him from the start should have been given stock dividends

and let go. But Neil insisted on keeping them, leading to some conservative decisions in the

Pennyfeather family’s company.

This was Neil’s kindness, but business was ruthless.

Maja hadn’t been in touch with Wyatt for a long time. Three years ago, when she married lan, she told

her father that to make the best use of the 30 million dollars invested by the Raymond Corporation, the

company needed a thorough reform, and the old staff should all leave.

Wyatt heard this. As an old employee, he fell out with Maja over this. But why was Wyatt reaching out

now?

“Maja, I need to talk to you about something in person. It’s big, and I dare not say it over the phone.

Can you come here? I’ll wait till 11 PM. If you’re not here by then, I’ll pretend nothing happened

tonight.”

Maja looked at the message; it was indeed from Wyatt.

They had a good relationship when she was young.

But after the previous conflict, Wyatt accused her of being ungrateful and only using people. He never

revisited the Pennyfeather family.

Maja knew Wyatt was honest but also stubborn. He stuck to his principles and didn’t like young people

contradicting him.

Since she couldn’t finish the design draft, she got up, changed, and went to the bar.

But she had no idea that after Wyatt hung up, a few men rushed into the private room and forced Wyatt

to drink.

Wyatt was forced to drink until he passed out, but he was still forced to keep drinking.

“If you want to live, mind your own business, got it? You can only blame yourself!”

“Why did you have to see that scene!”
