Chapter 246

Was lan going to make it back to Greenfield today?

She spotted his ride at Crystalbrook Valley yesterday, but she had to split since her own car needed

some TLC at the garage

Now Maja had set up shop in a hotel room, with no distractions on the horizon. She had camed her

meds with her, given the frequent hospital visits she made these days.

But as she strode into the hotel lobby, she was told there had been a mix up with her reservation and

someone else has claimed her room.

“Apologies, ma’am. As a make-good for our n mistake, we’ve upgraded you to the Presidential Suite,

on the house.”

Maja looked down at the keycard in her hand, a slight twitch at the corner of her mouth. She was on the

same floor as lan, and there were only two Presidential Suites on that floor.

She gave her forehead a nub, and took the card, but said nothing. All she wanted now was some shut-

eye.

Once in the elevator, she leaned against the comer, eyes closed. The doors slid open again, and there

stood lan and Jeff

Neither of them expected to bump into her in the elevator. lan’s brow furrowed, and a glint of something

deeper flashed in Jeff’s eyes

The two men stepped in, and Jeff picked up where he left off.

“Ms. Shepard’s flight lands at 4 PM. I’ve already booked her a table for dinner at 5

Maja only opened her eyes at the familiar voice, and upon seeing the two men, she quietly averted her

gaze.

The mirrored walls of the elevator reflected everyone distinctly, lan stood at the front, but his gaze was

fixed on the mirror.

She stood quietly in the corner Perhaps due to lack of sleep, her eyes were half-closed. She was

already a stunner, but her silence made her look like a shattered piece of diamond- lonely and fragile.

lan couldn’t help but recall the scene from yesterday at Crystalbrook Valley, with her standing outside.

The sun was shining brightly then, but she seemed as if she could vanish into it at any moment.

Now, when Maja lowered her gaze, her long, thick eyelashes didn’t even flutter

The elevator reached the top floor and lan stepped out first. But as he walked to his room, he heard a

soft footstep behind him and knew Maja has followed suit.

A moment of silence, then he asked “You got a problem you can’t solve?”

Didn’t she go to Samuel for help with her cousin? Didn’t Samuel help her out?

His voice was soft, but Maja was too muddled to hear him. She simply walked past him, heading to the

room at the other end of the hallway

This left lan feeling a bit awkward. A stiffness crossed his face, his mood sour for some reason.

He swiped his card and stepped into his room, unbuttoning a few buttons on his shirt, finding it hard to

breathe.

Jeff followed behind, pretending to have seen nothing.

“Mr. Raymond, I’ve sent the restaurant’s location to your phone. Here are the documents you’ll need

tomorrow.”

lan sat on the couch, nodding slightly, a chill in his eyes.

“The Pennyfeathers didn’t contact Holden then?”

“None

lan didn’t want to talk about the Pennyfeathers, so he just nodded.

Jeff arranged the documents and left.

Fresh out of the shower, towel-drying his hair, tan heard a knock on the door

He paused, a twitch of his lips, but when he opened the door, it was a bellboy with a light breakfast. He

stood in the doorway, and the bellboy didn’t dare to step in uninvited.

“Mr. Raymond?”

lan glanced down the hallway, but the suites were too far apart to see anything.

Come in.”

The bellboy pushed the cart into the room and set up the meal.

“Enjoy your meal, Mr. Raymond”

Then lan was left alone in the room.

After breakfast, he started working on the documents, but his mind seemed to be elsewhere.
