Chapter 228

Once Maja finished speaking, the sound of rain echoed from outside.

Felton had just stepped out of the kitchen, and seeing the rain, he chuckled and said, “There’s going to

be a ton of fresh mushrooms after this downpour.”

It seemed like Felton was a big fan of the wilderness. He sauntered over to the couch, started chatting

about the goodies you can find in the mountains, and instantly broke the eerie silence that had settled

in

But the rain outside was getting heavier, turning into a downpour. The visibility was dropping rapidly,

and the sky was turning gloomy. Out here in the wilderness, a storm was no joke.

So Felton said, “I’ve had the staff prep some rooms for all. It’s better if you stay the night here. No one

should be driving in this weather, plus there might be landslides.”

After saying this, he turned to Maja, “Penny, since you came with lan, you should stay too. I wouldn’t

feel safe if you drove back”

Maja had no say in this. If she decided to leave, but lan chose to stay, she’d be stuck walking alone in

the storm

So she turned to lan

Rubbing his forehead, lan sighed, “Well, that’s very kind of you.”

“No worries. You’ve stayed here before.”

Hearing this, Fannie’s eyes lit up. Finally, a topic she could chime in on. She quickly added, “Yeah, lan

was still a kid back then. He came with Holden. There weren’t even any proper roads in Crystalbrook

Valley, Holden was on vacation, and we just happened to bump into each other.” “Always so rude,

Felton scolded her, “I told you to address him by his first name.”

Fannie pouted, “This way, he doesn’t treat me like a kid.”

Like Felton, Maja finally understood that Holden loved the wilderness before he fell ill.

Holden would visit whenever there were wild mushrooms in the mountains, probably bringing along a

young lan, hence the connection with Felton that they’ve maintained over the years.

The chat continued throughout dinner, and a housekeeper led Maja to her room for the night.

The villa was styled in European design. Maja’s room was opposite lan’s along the same corridor, just a

few meters apart.

Being a woman staying in someone else’s house, there were many inconveniences-like not having a

change of clothes.

She had only planned on visiting for an hour or two before returning to her hotel, so she had no spare

clothes.

The room had its own bathroom and various toiletries, which was a relief. At least she could take a

proper bath.

She had spent the previous night sleeping on a chair in the hotel because of a black bug, so she was

pretty beaten.

The place was pristine, filled with the scent of wood. All the furniture was made of cherry wood.

Maja felt at ease. She stripped down, washed herself with the soap provided, and tossed her clothes in

a nearby basket. After her bath, she planned to wash them properly and dry them with a hairdryer

But as she was drying herself off after soaking for about 20 minutes, she heard a knock on the door.

She assumed it was one of the housekeepers. So she wrapped herself in a light blue towel, quickly

dried her hair, and opened the door.

It turns out it wasn’t a housekeeper. It was lan.

lan’s hand was still hanging in the air. He looked at her damp hair and slightly flushed cheeks from the

hot bath. His eyelashes fluttered.

Maja was taken aback. She looked up at him and regained her composure after a few seconds.

“Mr. Raymond, is there something you need?”

Her skin was glowing, showing a subtle pink from the steam. Her eyes were glistening as she looked

straight at him.

Her state was quite endearing.
